Missions and Outreach should not be defined by particular programs that run through our church or specific departments. Neither should it be defined by a series of trips or any other specific event. Rather, it should be, and frankly must be, a prevailing attitude of the church as a whole to reach the lost in everything we do. The mission with which God has strengthened us and to which he has called us is to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt 28:18). We are called to go and make disciples! Therefore our central focus in all we do is reaching the lost for Christ by proclaiming the greatness and supremacy of our God (1 Peter 2:9). Certainly we do this through our children's, youth, and adult ministries, as well as in our preaching and teaching. However, more than our ministries, we are called as individuals of the body of Christ to take the gospel to our work place, our families, and beyond in order to set it before them the glory of God in the fullness of Christ.
We "outreach" in every area of life. One problem with simply having an "outreach" or a "missions" department is that it often becomes someone else's job. It is our responsibility, each one of us, to spread the gospel in all we do, baptizing and making disciples in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
To God be the Glory, Great Things He Has Done!!
